Outrageous attack by Plaid Cymru representative in Holyhead

Plaid Cymru faces questions regarding "canvassing safeguards."

Covid-19 forced us to shop online and go digital since March 2020's first lockdown. Many of us have grown accustomed to online deliveries, the prospect of receiving a delivery or a knock on the door has been a welcome human interaction following the Covid restrictions.

The Holyhead mail article reveals the shocking experience of one woman in Holyhead who opened her door to a Plaid Cymru canvasser.

https://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/plaid-cymru-canvasser-sex-assault-20436516

Cadno Mon questions the "old model" of door-to-door canvassing (in a digital world) and if such mode remains relevant "in today's society." Should Plaid Cymru have safeguarded by only employing canvassers with an enhanced DBS? A DBS is a "disclosure and barring service" certificate provided by HM Gov and selected private companies as below:

https://www.gov.uk/dbs-update-service

https://www.disclosureservices.com/product/enhanced-dbs-checks/

The worry is that without safeguards the public will refuse to fully engage with the "electoral process" leading to a newsprint media and digital-only campaign that excludes the human element and healthy discourse.

Background checks by way of an enhanced DBS for all canvassers should provide the public with some reassurance and the first party that introduces such measures would get my vote!

Ynys Mon Anglesey man - Huw Gethin Jones fundraiser

Ynys Mon Anglesey man's sad passing

Not all of us knew Huw Gethin Jones who tragically passed last week in a story covered by the BBC. This could have been you or me.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-wales-56153462

Having no medical knowledge, it would be inappropriate to comment on Covid19 save that it's proven to be a very nasty merciless disease so we must defeat the virus by following the spirit and law of Government guidelines along with getting ourselves vaccinated PDQ.

Picking up on the BBC article, it has emerged funds have been raised for the family via "Go Fund Me" as per the below link.

https://uk.gofundme.com/f/er-cof-am-huw-gethin

Anglesey is one big community so I would urge you all to think beyond the next indulgent purchase; find a few coins and make a monetary gesture that will help underpin Huw Gethin Jones' wife and young sons' futures. Don't just sit there do something positive folks - you will feel much better having done so.

Diolch Yn Fawr - Thank you very much

Plaid Cymru's Benllech Ghetto? - FPL/2019/217

Cadno M么n questions comments made by Cllr Margaret Roberts in regard to Application FPL/2019/217 at the Planning & Orders Committee on 10th February 2021

The above application is for 17 affordable units located outside the Benllech village envelope heard by the committee on 10th February 2021.

However, members were given an opportunity to provide their observations and during her turn, Cllr Margaret Roberts was asked to clarify comments she made at the previous Planning & Orders Committee meeting:

that "if this application is allowed it could create ghettos."

Listen to the recording 30:00 mins exactly into the webcast:

https://ynysmon.public-i.tv/core/portal/webcast_interactive/538846/start_time/0

Cadno M么n would like to know:

1. Is this language really necessary?

Ghetto?

Meaning: an area of a city, especially a very poor area, where people of a particular race or religion live closely together and apart from other people

2. Could Cllr Roberts' clarification further?

"When you put homes like these on the edge of the village, young families without cars are put on the boundaries of the village so what happens is that an estate that is for local people, that is what I was considering and once that type of thing happens we create two communities in a way, a division."

3. Analysis of Cllr Roberts text

i) "When you put homes like these on the edge of the village, young families without cars are put on the boundaries of the village ...."

a) There are no other sites
b) Young families without cars - does Cllr Roberts have a complete breakdown of the demographics (household size) of those registered in need of affordable housing to buy? O
f those registered in need of affordable housing to buy, is there a requirement to declare car ownership?

ii) "....so what happens is that an estate that is for local people, that is what I was considering and once that type of thing happens...."

A planning decision notice would state that the consent is for C3 housing affordable in perpetuity, therefore, discounted to a percentage of market value. Those registered as wishing to buy affordable would presumably need to quality as it is Ynys Mon Council that curates the list. Local is qualified in the definitions for affordable housing. It is not believed language is a factor in "local." What possible concerns could Cllr Roberts have about local people?

iii) "...we create two communities in a way, a division."

None of Ynys Mon Anglesey Council planning/housing policies can discriminate. When Cllr Roberts says "...we create two communities in a way, a division" is this unconscious bias?

4. Does Ms. Roberts want affordable housing for local people in Ynys Mon Anglesey?

Is securing affordable units for locals not "high on the agenda" for Cllr Roberts party Plaid Cymru? There's no other affordable housing opportunity in Benllech.

5.  There are two points here.

Firstly, there are no similar-sized land parcels in Benllech's core or fanning out on a sequential land-test basis.

Secondly, as the land is beyond the village envelope, any housing development is automatically affordable.

6. Has Cllr Roberts voted in relation to any other affordable housing matters in Ynys Mon Anglesey including planning policy? Does she know how planning policy works? Is this NIMBYism?

7. There are many people in need of affordable units in Ynys Mon Anglesey. If I was at the top of the list for an affordable home in Ynys Mon Anglesey and I became aware Plaid Cymru had turned down the application for reasons that do not hold water then I would not be voting Plaid Cymru at the next local election.....no way!

Conservatives' North Wales candidates for Senedd Welsh Assembly election May 2021

Today, the Conservatives announced their North Wales AM candidate selection standing in the forthcoming Senedd Cymraeg Welsh Assembly elections on 6th May 2021:-

1. Aberconwy - Janet Finch-Saunders MS is standing again in Aberconwy.

An excellent and seasoned politician

2. Arfon - Tony Thomas

No details

3. Ynys Mon - Lyn Hudson

A Cardiff-based lady Councillor who doesn't speak Welsh. Here's some background to her imposed selection by CCHQ.

Candidate selection round #1

Lyn Hudson was put on a shortlist of two candidates for Anglesey in November 2020 but unimpressed the local membership rejected both candidates so the vote never saw the light of day.

This story is here http://www.circusmaximus.co.uk/2020/12/conservatives-ynys-mon-anglesey-am.html

Candidate selection round #2

On around 19th January 2021 the Conservatives announced the results of the candidate ballot for selection for North Wales

Lyn Hudson does not appear on the list of seven successful candidates - she was rejected by the North Wales membership.

This story is here

Observation

The local membership twice rejected Lyn Hudson's candidacy for (North Wales Conservatives) Ynys Mon Anglesey.

Why does CCHQ waste everyone's time and donors' funds by putting up a candidate selection list only to finally impose on Ynys Mon Anglesey the candidate they attempted to orchestrate selection of from the outset? What a complete circus ........

Tip off's are always welcome ffrindiau!

Ynys Mon Anglesey Candidate selection unremarkable

Ynys Mon Anglesey Candidate needs to be a "winner!"

North Wales Conservative members were sent a ballot pack on 18th December 2020 with ballot returns required by Thursday 12th January 2021. There are nine candidates and members must vote for all nine candidates by ascribing a 1 or 2 to each candidate to denote first and second choices.

Each of the nine candidate's "private and confidential" CV's is circulated amongst members but remarkably "approved candidates' CV's are for the "North Wales" Region leaving the situation fluid if CCHQ wishes to slot candidates into a particular seat.

Previously, Ynys Mon Anglesey members were sent ballots for two candidates (with 30th Nov 2020 ballot return deadline) but only Lyn Hudson (Cardiff North Councillor) seems to have survived with apparently no Conservative member selection process having ever taken place.

Nonetheless, Cardiff-based Lyn Hudson appears amongst the list of nine candidates for North Wales although specifically for Ynys Mon Anglesey and selected directly by CCHQ. There was no local selection process.

Cadno Mn has these questions:

1. Why were only two Ynys Mon Anglesey candidates ever put forward to local members for selection by CCHQ in November 2020?  Why no proper competitive selection comprising multiple candidates?

2. Were better candidates simply ignored in favour of a CCHQ favourite? (Cadno Mcan think of at least two local Welsh speakers with far superior CV's)

3. If Cardiff-based Lyn Hudson is selected, how will she hold a surgery in Ynys Mon Anglesey on Mondays and Fridays if Cardiff-based?

4. Is she fluent Welsh speaker?

5. What is her local connection with the people of Ynys Mon Anglesey?

6. Cadno Mn does not see the Conservatives selecting a winner, do you?

It's really hard to believe there is no better candidate for Ynys Mon Anglesey's Conservatives but the local ballot result might reflect members disdain the foregoing and CCHQ.

U-turn for Holyhead Brexit customs facility saves jobs!

 TODAY'S "SIGNIFICANT" NEWS:

On 5th and 23rd November then on 1st December 2020, Cadno M么n revealed the chaos surrounding Ynys Mon Anglesey Council's failure to deliver a Brexit customs facility in Holyhead before 1st January 2021 as well as suggesting alternative sites.

Today, Cadno M么n is pleased to hear that intervention by Ynys Mon Anglesey MP Virginia Crosbie has resulted in a dramatic u-turn, and here is the media release:

"The Government has today confirmed that it will not be pursuing the purchase of the Road King site at Parc Cybi in Holyhead. The site had been proposed for use as a customs and/or freight checking facility given the need for substantial new port infrastructure following the UK’s departure from the EU.

Following a commitment to local MP, Virginia Crosbie, that the Government would use the opportunity to create jobs on Anglesey, their representatives met with Road King in the autumn. Following that meeting both HMRC and the Welsh Government committed to undertake viability assessments of the Road King site along with other locations in the area.

MP for Ynys M么n, Virginia Crosbie, who has been working with stakeholders on the proposal said:

“Investigations by both Welsh and UK Governments have established that there is no single site immediately available in Holyhead that is big enough to support both functions. This means that the operations will need to be split over multiple sites.

“I am pleased that alternative facilities more suited to the requirements have been identified locally. I hope to receive confirmation soon that work will go ahead resulting in the creation of over 120 new jobs in Holyhead.

“As a result of today’s announcement I hope that Road King will be able to remain open without loss of jobs. Looking into 2021 and beyond, Road King could be in a unique position to offer an established complimentary service to the other freight and logistics operations.”

Finally, some good news!
