U-turn for Holyhead Brexit customs facility saves jobs!

 TODAY'S "SIGNIFICANT" NEWS:

On 5th and 23rd November then on 1st December 2020, Cadno Môn revealed the chaos surrounding Ynys Mon Anglesey Council's failure to deliver a Brexit customs facility in Holyhead before 1st January 2021 as well as suggesting alternative sites.

Today, Cadno Môn is pleased to hear that intervention by Ynys Mon Anglesey MP Virginia Crosbie has resulted in a dramatic u-turn, and here is the media release:

"The Government has today confirmed that it will not be pursuing the purchase of the Road King site at Parc Cybi in Holyhead. The site had been proposed for use as a customs and/or freight checking facility given the need for substantial new port infrastructure following the UK’s departure from the EU.

Following a commitment to local MP, Virginia Crosbie, that the Government would use the opportunity to create jobs on Anglesey, their representatives met with Road King in the autumn. Following that meeting both HMRC and the Welsh Government committed to undertake viability assessments of the Road King site along with other locations in the area.

MP for Ynys Môn, Virginia Crosbie, who has been working with stakeholders on the proposal said:

“Investigations by both Welsh and UK Governments have established that there is no single site immediately available in Holyhead that is big enough to support both functions. This means that the operations will need to be split over multiple sites.

“I am pleased that alternative facilities more suited to the requirements have been identified locally. I hope to receive confirmation soon that work will go ahead resulting in the creation of over 120 new jobs in Holyhead.

“As a result of today’s announcement I hope that Road King will be able to remain open without loss of jobs. Looking into 2021 and beyond, Road King could be in a unique position to offer an established complimentary service to the other freight and logistics operations.”

Finally, some good news!

Gordon Brown - Why should he advise WAG?

THOUGHT-PROVOKING

Labour has been steadily losing its political grip in Wales so it was no surprise to see the party roll out more support. Nobody expected "more support" to be in the form of former PM Gordon Brown but there again, both he and the Welsh First Minister are politically and ideologically aligned. Hold that thought.

Former PM Gordon Brown's WAG appointment in May 2020 (to help with the pandemic) was reported by the BBC. Most of us were too worried about our businesses and putting food on the table perhaps pay too much attention.

A June 2020 FOI Act request answers questions regarding Gordon Brown's remuneration and role. see

https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2020-06/ATISN%2013946.pdf

Are the people of Wales aware of Gordon Brown's participation in the "Understanding China" summit? This is the very same Gordon Brown who championed human rights and sold the UK's reserves at rock bottom prices.

https://www.shine.cn/news/nation/2011210287/

“I want to discuss an agenda of ‘cooperation where possible',” said Brown, former UK Prime Minister. “Identifying areas where there are common interests and where by intensifying collaboration we can manage areas of competition and even potential conflict.”

"We need hope … sending out a message that we will now work together to agree on global solutions to global problems is what can most give people hope.”

A question might be, what does globalist Gordon Brown have in common with Wales? When most economies are retreating from dependence on cheaply made Chinese goods and switching to home production, why is Gordon Brown getting cozy with China? How can he be of any benefit to WAG with his globalist ideas? Moreover, his approach is out of step with the vast majority of right-minded politicians recognising the Chinese threat with influence programs to neutralise unfavourable foreign policy against China in the west. How can Gordon Brown swim against the tide?

Ynys Môn Anglesey - wind turbine contribution to the "Energy Island" mix?

THOUGHT-PROVOKING

As of Friday, the people of Wales were again under lockdown rules and an 18:00 curfew for pubs and hospitality.

For the vast majority of us, this will mean staying at home, there's no other option tonight. But has anyone really considered how much energy is being consumed whilst we're all watching tv and using our electronic devices?

Anglesey has a significant number of wind turbines but look at the contribution of wind power to today's electricity generation as a snapshot. There is no wind generation owing to "no wind."

Is it worth investing in more wind turbines in Anglesey?

Check the link below to reveal today's energy mix contributors to National power generation.

Road King at Parc Cybi chosen as Holyhead Brexit customs facility

TONIGHT'S NEWS:

On October 27th and November 21st, 2020, Cadno Môn revealed the chaos surrounding Ynys Mon Anglesey Council's failure to deliver a Brexit customs facility in Holyhead before 1st January 2021.

Tonight on S4C Welsh News, in an interview with Sion Twcwyn, Llinos Medi, leader of Ynys Mon Council stated that a site had been secured for a Brexit customs facility in Holyhead, namely the Road King Holyhead Transport Cafe at Parc Cybi, Holyhead. see http://www.rktruckstops.co.uk/locations/

Moreover, the deal means the Road King facility will close with a loss of 28 jobs so that the site can be adapted for use as a Brexit customs facility in time for 1st January 2021.

It is understood Park Cybi's freeholders negotiated a deal directly with HMRC although no further details were given.

It is further understood that Ynys Mon Council submitted a planning application on its own land at Mona Industrial Park for a Brexit customs facility given no local site was suitable or available in Holyhead. However, the council's planning committee refused the Mona application on the basis that trucks leaving Holyhead Port would be using the A5 through Gwalchmai.

On S4C, council leader Llinos Medi stated that" the council's site at Mona was unsuitable because lorries would have to go through Gwalchmai." But is this entirely true?

There were other options:

1. Extend the VOSA site at A55, J4

It's just surrounded by farmland and close to Holyhead.

2. Acquire the Turnpike Nant services site (which has planning approval) at A55, J6

This could have been the council's prize.

3. Mona Industrial Estate - access only via A55, J6

It seems the Ynys Mon Council leader was unable to fathom that trucks could travel to the Mona Industrial Estate to a new Brexit customs facility (built on council land) along the A55 to J6 and double back to Mona on the A55. Why was this option not considered?

In summary, Holyhead has lost its truckstop with 28 jobs, Ynys Mon Council has lost HMRC as a tenant at Mona Industrial Estate. Again, the abject failure of leadership by Ynys Mon Council's Llinos Medi of Plaid Cymru.

Conservatives - Ynys Môn Anglesey AM candidate list for May 2021 (update)

TONIGHT'S NEWS:

On 17th November 2020, Cadno Môstated, "the word on the street" is that Cardiff's Conservative Office has selected two candidates for Ynys Môn for the Senedd election due to be held on Thursday 6th May 2021.

Both candidates are female, one lives in Cardiff and the other locally. It would be improper to publicly reveal identities even though names are circulating amongst Conservatives who received the Returning Officer's communication to Ceidwadwyr Cymreig Welsh Conservatives on 16th November 2020 together with the confidential "bio" of both.

Ballots for candidate selection closed at the first post on Monday 30th November 2020.

Cadno Môn can now reveal that after both candidates were put forward to the local party for members for consideration, the process seems to have just stopped. It appears as if the selection process has just not taken place.

It is understood the candidates' suitability may be in question.

1. Why were there only two candidates?

2. Was there no candidate with local political experience?
